Why do I carry my own green tea thermos? – #SuperBloggerChallenge2019 #Instacuppa
A Green Tea Detox Bottle From InstaCuppa
I have been a habitual drinker of tea since childhood. I have always liked my tea sugary and milky. My earliest memories of drinking tea are those of my childhood days in New Delhi when I used to drink tea curled up in a warm bed as the rains poured from the skies. I spent my school days from the fifth grade to the twelfth grade in New Delhi. Sometimes my mother used to leave me alone at home with strict instructions not to fool around in the kitchen. I would then take pleasure in sneaking into the kitchen and making myself a Garma-garam cuppa of milky, sugary tea.
The rainy seasons during May and June used to be pretty severe in Delhi and chai shops used to do a roaring business. After that, for four years, I studied in IIT Varanasi and the campus used to be dotted with chai shops everywhere. I still remember the tea vendors names. There was mochu, bechand, beeru and several others who used to maintain tea stalls. In between classes we used to sneak off for a cup of chai and a cigarette. Yes, those days I used to smoke. And I remember I used to take a lot of pleasure in smoking and drinking chai at the same time.
My love for tea continued well into middle age. It was around the time I was forty-five or so that I was diagnosed with Type-II Diabetes. In addition, I had a high cholesterol level and was obese and extremely over-weight. I was ordered by my doctor to drink beverages without sugar. For a person like me with a sweet tooth of mammoth proportions, this curse pronounced by my physician was unparalleled in magnitude.
I resigned myself to my fate and obeyed my physician’s diktat. It was at this stage that I discovered Green Tea. This happened when my brother-in-law visited us for a month at Kochi. My relationship with my brother-in-law has always been very informal and I confided a lot in him about my health problems. He gave me a sympathetic ear when I poured out my woes about being restrained from drinking sweet beverages.
When I came back from the office the next day he entered the kitchen, spent a few minutes and came back with a cup full of steaming liquid that looked watery and placed it in front of me. He looked at me and said, ‘Here is a special preparation made by me to help you tide over your problems. Drink this.’
I looked at his grinning face suspiciously and asked, ‘Now, what have you been up to?’
He just grinned and said, ‘Do as I say.’
I picked up the cup and began sipping the liquid slowly. I immediately fell in love with the taste. He had added a very little sugar, just to satisfy my sweet tooth. The concoction tasted simply heavenly.
‘Hey, what is this?’ I asked him in ecstasy.
He smiled and said, ‘It is called Green Tea.’
That was the day Green Tea entered my life and there has been no looking back ever since. I have completely switched over to Green Tea now. Ever since that day, I have been carrying my own Green Tea thermos when I go to the office. People in my office look wryly at me and my thermos and sometimes crack jokes. Most of them are youngsters and their digestive system is robust and their bodies agree with the tea we get in the stalls and canteens around our office. But for someone like me, it is important that what I drink is agreeable to my stomach and so I prefer to make my own arrangements like carrying a thermos. Further carrying a green tea thermos means I can sip tea anytime when I want to rejuvenate my body and mind. I use the InstaCuppa Double Walled Borosilicate Glass Green Tea Detox Bottle 450 ML with Steel Infuser Unit. This means I now have an uninterrupted supply of green tea. You can buy this product from Amazon here.
In addition to satisfying my palette, I came to know that Green Tea has several benefits for the health, especially if you are a Diabetic and are also over-weight like me. I still remember the small primer my brother-in-law gave me on the health benefits of Green Tea.
Here I list some of the health benefits Green Tea is believed to have.
1. Green Tea is rich in Polyphenols that help in reducing cell damage.
2. It is good for brain function.
3. It helps in fat burning and for a person like me who is overweight, this is of primary importance.
4. It reduces the risk of certain types of cancer.
5. It lowers the risk of Type-II Diabetes.
6. Improves dental health.
7. Keeps Cardio-Vascular diseases at bay.
8. Since it keeps you maintain health in so many ways, it naturally follows that you live longer if you drink green tea.
9. It is particularly good for brain function and in older people may have beneficial effects like delaying the onset of diseases like Alzheimer’s.
10. Reduces the risk of Cardio-Vascular disease.
I have been drinking Green Tea for a long time for now. And I make sure I carry my own green tea thermos with me while going to the office or while travelling by train. Apart from the health benefits, Green Tea is also tasty unlike other kinds of tea like say, the Kattan Chaya so popular in Kerala where I live. I advise those of you who are tea lovers and also have health issues like me to switch over to Green Tea.
