A Dream, A Fantasy, Flying Into The Unknown…

A Dream, A Fantasy, Flying Into The Unknown
I am once again a youth in my teens,
dreaming of flying high up into the clouds,
I think to myself, maybe if I jump high up into the air,
I won’t come back crashing down to the ground.

I put thoughts into  action and take a leap up into the sky,
to my surprise I fly up and away instead of coming down,
I move up and up, further away from the terra firma,
leaving my near and dear ones down below on the ground.

I move some distance up towards the sky,
I look down and everything appears to be tiny,
I think of the billions of people I have left below,
busy going about the business of their lives.

I look at the numerous buildings that appear to be tiny dots,
I can see vehicles, men, women, children and animals,
all appearing to be moving like tiny ants,
oh ! so lost, busy and wrapped up in their lives.

I look down in awestruck wonder,
and think of the trillions of men and women,
who have lived and died over the centuries on mother earth,
the wars that have been fought and the blood that has been shed.

I think of the billions of heroes, martyrs, villains and beauties,
who have lived in this planet I am flying above,
the thousands of religions and the millions of leaders,
who have fought over land, hate, jealousy and love.

I think of the great scientists who have thrown light,
on the mysteries and wonders of mother nature,
the millions of musicians, poets, sculptors and painters,
who have made humanity flourish from time to time.

I think of the great civilizations of the earth,
from the Greek and the Roman to the Indus valley civilization,
the thousands of philosophies that men have invented,
to explain the mysteries of nature and this wonderful creation.

I am still moving up and up, higher and higher,
the air gets thinner but I am still breathing easily,
I can no longer see the ants moving about below,
but I can still see the seas, oceans and the land.
I move up, out of the earth’s atmosphere,
maybe here I will find the god I have been told of,
I look around myself and see a glorious sight,
of billions of twinkling stars and planets, but alas ! no god.

Maybe he is here somewhere nearby,
watching me in amusement and mirth,
a mere mortal trying to find him,
but somehow I can’t take this idea for granted.

I am awestruck with wonder at this sight,
that I am seeing around me in all its glorious splendor,
I still do not see the omnipresent god,
I have been told about so often by the men on earth.

I decide it is time to go down again,
and move down towards the tiny dot,
which is how mother earth appears to me from where I am,
I flap my legs and start my downward journey.

I go down and down and approach mother earth,
in all her beauty and oh ! she is such a wonderful sight,
I can now make out the mountain tops and the cities,
men and women are now their normal size.

I land gently on some thing soft and warm,
suddenly there is a loud shrill of an alarm bell ringing,
I jump up with a start out of my warm and cosy bed,
realizing it is time to join the stream of humanity.

I recall my flight of fancy and my dream,
the wonderful sight I saw high above the earth,
Oh ! no more time for dwelling on that,
for I have to get down to the business of living another day.

  1. Nice 🙂 ……..once Dalai Lama said:

“Every day, think as you wake up, today I am fortunate to be alive, I have a precious human life, I am not going to waste it. I am going to use all my energies to develop myself, to expand my heart out to others; to achieve enlightenment for the benefit of all beings. I am going to have kind thoughts towards others, I am not going to get angry or think badly about others. I am going to benefit others as much as I can.”
